Hurt People Hurt People

Hurt People Hurt People – You’re Not Seeing Double!

We’ve all come across a nasty person in our lives who could be classified as an enemy. It seems as if this person is bound and determined to destroy our peace and joy.

Why don’t they just leave me alone?

Have you ever asked that question? The harassment can happen at work, online, at a store, or in our daily interactions with aggressive people.

Sometimes the harassment is downright frightening.

They Have Nothing Better To Do

I remember once I had gone on a conservative women’s Facebook website and wrote a positive comment about the excellent work they were doing.

Hurt people hurt peopleApparently, there are sharks circling on every website now looking to devour anyone who supports conservative, God-honoring values.

Shortly after I made the comment, I got a threatening message from someone I didn’t recognize. Turns out this “gentleman” had seen my comment and didn’t like it. He called me the most awful, four-letter name that crude people use to describe a woman they don’t like. I was horrified at the language and the other threatening words that he used. This person didn’t even disguise his avatar. This man (and people like him), in internet terms, is commonly called a “troll.” I can’t even imagine the mindset of someone who would purposely seek out a stranger and call them names like that. There must be a deep-rooted misery in this person to strike out like he did. Hurt people, hurt people. It’s a sick world indeed, in need of a Savior.

How Should We Deal With Belligerent People?

So how did I handle this online, very sad, person? At first, I had the immediate reaction of wondering if this attacker knows where I live. After blocking him, I then informed my husband and some friends about the whole incident. It’s a good idea to make people aware if you’ve received a threat of some kind.

hurt people hurt peopleAfter I calmed down a bit, I decided to pray for him that night. And I did pray that God would change His life around. Praying helped me feel a lot better.

I don’t know if this man ever turned to God. We can only hope. But, praying was an important step – even though this man had enough anger in his heart to threaten me with violence.

It’s Hard to Pray for Our Enemies

I know firsthand that it’s hard to pray for God to bless our enemies. We don’t pray for them to become rich or anything. We pray for them to learn of His saving grace. It takes practice and it pleases God. Why should we bother?

  • The Bible tells us to pray for our enemies.
  • We’re showing obedience to God.
  • A prayer for our enemy can result in him/her turning to God.

Perspective is Everything

We may never know which of our enemies will have a changed life. But God wants us to pray regardless.

Not one of us is worthy. We all became enemies of God once sin entered the world. But, as Christians, we have the hope of eternal life. Before we became born again as His new creation, how were we any different than our own worst enemy? As painful as it is to think about, all of our sins (yours and mine) sent Jesus to the cross. All of us have access to His saving grace and that includes praying for the salvation of our enemies.

Remember Saul in the Bible, who later became Paul? Saul hated Christianity. He was an instrumental figure in trying to destroy the Church. And yet, he was prayed for by a devout Christian. Saul’s life dramatically changed thanks to God’s providence. What an amazing and inspiring encouragement Paul’s life story is to remind us to pray for our enemies.

I found a wonderful article that demonstrates this very well. Thank you in advance to a talented fellow Christian writer, Abby Kelly.

Who Prayed For Paul?
By Abby Kelly

The headlines ran red. If there were a secret first century parchment bearing news, prayers and encouragement, circulating the dispersed believers, surely it read, ” Steven, our beloved brother in the faith, perished at the hands of Saul and the religious leaders. He breathed his last yet full of the Spirit and testifying to the goodness of Jesus.”

Maybe, John picked up that parchment or maybe he wrote it, heart aching. What a loss for the early church! No doubt Christians across the known world knelt in their homes and small gatherings, praying fervently for Steven’s family, the progress of the Gospel, their own safety and Christ’s soon return. But who prayed for Saul?

The early church knew who was responsible for much of their terror, and God asked them to do the unbelievable. After Jesus appeared to Saul on the road to Damascus, He approached one of His own, a man named Ananias, and told him to go to Saul and lay his hands on him: ” ‘Lord,’ Ananias answered, ‘I have heard many reports about this man and all the harm he has done to your holy people in Jerusalem. And he has come here with authority from the chief priests to arrest all who call on your name.’ ” (Acts 9:13, 14)

I wonder about that as our own headlines run red. Every single day we learn of more Christians, more People of the Cross, losing their lives for the name of Jesus. And, I kneel. I kneel by my bed and pray with tears streaming down my face. My emotions boil, a hot alloy of anger, fear, compassion and longing for justice. I lift up the Coptic Christians, those in Syria, Pastor Saeed Abedini, the orphans, the widows and those fighting for freedom.

But who prays for ISIS? Who prays for the Muslim Brotherhood? Who prays for Boko Haram and Vladimir Putin? Who prays for Al Queda?

Last Sunday, I served on prayer team at my church. Five of us huddled in the church office praying for the service and everything the Spirit laid on our hearts. We prayed for the church worldwide, but in that hour, none of us prayed for the persecutors. I have to confess, that even on my own time, I am reticent to pray for them. It’s not that I haven’t thought of it; it’s just that I don’t want to.

But in the biblical account, God didn’t let prayer warriors off the hook. In Acts 9:15-17, He replied to Ananias, ” ‘Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel. I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.’ Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, ‘Brother Saul, the LordJesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.’ “

If Ananias had refused God, if he had found praying for the murderer of his Christian brothers just too hard, what would have become of Saul? Who would have become Paul? Who would have written the majority of the New Testament? Who would have written Romans, the consummate doctrine of salvation by grace through faith?

God may have asked Ananias to do the unbelievable, but God proved that He will do the impossible. The bulk of our sacred New Testament was penned by the very man who once slaughtered People of the Cross.

Might God dramatically change the trajectory of history if Christians today pray for the persecutors? Can you imagine, for a split second, the magnificent manifestation of God’s glory if those perpetuating evil turned their hearts toward Jesus? Do you think we should be praying for terrorists? What should we pray?

TobyMac’s Latest Tour Shines Bright In Dallas

TobyMac Tour Shines Bright in the Big D

Hands down, my best birthday present ever was getting to see TobyMac in concert…and getting to meet him.

I’m a huge fan and the tour for his latest album, the Grammy-nominated, “This Is Not A Test,” was already on my radar. I could hardly contain my excitement when I found out that my husband’s birthday surprise included a meet-and-greet with the artist himself.

Backstage With TobyMac

Going backstage pre-concert was a thrill that I’ll remember for the rest of my life. I wasn’t the only one on cloud 9. My husband and I were standing in the meet-and-greet line behind a dad and his two young daughters. I asked one of them which song off the album was her favorite and she said, “All of them!”

Toby was gracious to everyone and accommodating of each selfie request. When it was my turn, I got the prized photo above, plus Toby wished me a “Happy Birthday.”

Sweet!

The Verizon Theater in Dallas was packed with concert goers of all ages and the excitement was contagious.

The lineup included some impressive talent, namely, Colton Dixon, Hollyn, and Britt Nicole.

Some brief words about these other artists:

Hollyn sings

Hollyn was amazing and I love her musical collaborations with Toby. She has a powerful voice and I have no doubt she’ll be someone to watch in the world of Christian music.

A song from Colton Dixon

You may remember Colton Dixon as a former American Idol finalist. His driving rhythms had the crowd rocking from the first few seats all the way up to the rafters. I could actually feel his music in my chest.

I’ve seen him in interviews. He’s a sweet guy with a passion for sharing the message of Christ through his God-honoring lyrics. I’m grateful there are artists like Colton whose music appeals to a whole new generation of fans who are searching for meaning in a reckless world.

Britt Nicole charms the audience

Britt Nicole was a delight. She has more energy than any female recording artist I’ve ever seen on stage. Girl’s got some moves! A highlight was when she walked down into the audience and took selfies with young kids during her songs.

Toby Mac-netizes The Crowd With Unforgettable Hooks and a Dynamic Stage Presence

There was a short curtain glitch before TobyMac and DiverseCity came on. Once the curtain was righted, the crowd erupted in a loud roar as my new friend Toby (emphasis mine) came out on stage waving a huge white banner singing, “Til The Day I Die.”

opening number for TobyMac

You could safely say that every song he sang received a standing ovation from start to finish. We didn’t sit down once  🙂

I love his new album and, of course, I have my favorite songs already. He’s hit it out of the park again with “This Is Not a Test” – electrifying, heart-pumping rhythms that give you the irresistible urge to jump up and dance like no one’s watching.

TobyMac tour

Here are some thoughts on my faves:

Backseat Driver (Feat. Hollyn & Tru) – First off, let me mention, if you didn’t already know, Tru is Toby’s son. The title of this song and the catchy lyrics? Well, pure genius. Aren’t we all backseat drivers to God’s direction at one time or another? We want things our way, otherwise, we want God out of the way. This song emphasizes that our desire should be to let God be God and give control to Him.

Check out this official lyric video for the song, BackSeat Driver.

Aren’t We All Control Freaks At Times?

How many of us want to take over, take the wheel, take God out of the circumstances of our lives? In our moments of self-absorption, we sometimes think that we are actually in control. This is a song about surrendering everything to God and resting in the knowledge that He knows what’s best for us.

Lights Shine Bright (Feat. Hollyn) – Hollyn’s soulful vocals do not disappoint on this song. It begins with a whisper then builds to the unforgettable refrain.

Feel It (Feat. Mr. Talkbox) – this is another favorite. Like most of Toby’s songs, this is a high energy tune with empowering lyrics that embrace the spirit of our faith – that no matter what, Christ is all we need.

Move (Keep Walkin’)– If unanswered prayers have you feeling down, this song serves as a battle cry and important reminder to keep pushing forward because we have the promise of eternal victory through Christ. The lyrics are a battle cry really, with precise rhythms like what you might expect of soldiers marching into battle.

Undeniable – The lyrics to Undeniable are beautiful. Here’s a sample:

You’re the bright and morning star,

but still You speak to my heart.

Undeniable, You are,

You are.

God is on His throne above, Lord of all, and yet He speaks to our hearts and knows our names. His signature is on everything. It’s like a prayer. I love the addition of the youth choir singing at the end of this song.

TobyMac Just Keeps Getting Better and Better

The Hits Deep Tour is scheduled to begin in early February. You can find his latest tour dates on his website, http://tobymac.com/announcing-hits-deep-tour-2016/

Gianna Jessen

God’s Girl

If I had to name just one woman who truly inspires me, it would be Gianna Jessen.

I know I’ve mentioned her before in my blog, but she’s especially been on my heart lately. If you don’t know her story, Gianna Jessen is an abortion survivor. She also has cerebral palsy, the result of the failed abortion attempt.

baby in the wombGianna has dedicated her life to sharing her faith in God and speaking out against the senseless murder of babies in the womb. She has shared her story all over the world.

I love her honesty and I love her spunk despite the difficult circumstances of her life. One thing she is not – and that is a victim.

“I’m His girl. You don’t mess with God’s girl. I got a sign on my forehead that says: You better be nice to me, for my Father owns the world.” – Gianna Jessen

The Planned Parenthood videos with the horrific news of dismemberment of babies make me want to be sick. Of course, they’re claiming the tapes were “doctored.” Would we expect anything else? Whether they were doctored or not, that doesn’t make abortion right.

The fact is: God wanted those babies to be born and their lives were snuffed out.

Babies Have Rights Too, Just Ask Gianna Jessen

Sadly, any moral compass in our country is disappearing right before our very eyes. The “eject” button has been pressed by the media, Hollywood, politicians, and a self-absorbed generation of Americans who can’t be bothered. We will all be held accountable.

I don’t know about you, but I feel betrayed by the majority of the congressmen we elected during the mid-terms. I thought, with a supposed conservative majority, it was a signal that our nation may be turning back to God. And yet, time after time, this current crop of politicians have turned their backs on God and the sanctity of life with their decisions.

Shame on them. 🙁

I am disgusted.

Those politicians who are failing us and also those people holding up their pro-abortion signs, do not represent me. From the statistics I’ve seen, nor do they represent the majority of men and women in America.

Gianna Jessen - God's GirlAbortion is evil, plain and simple.

We might as well be right back in Biblical times when cult-worshippers sacrificed children on their counterfeit altars.

Planned Parenthood only does mammogram “referrals” – we’ve heard that time and time again. Regardless, for some very deceived people, this “referral” is more important than a baby’s life. Follow the money.

Haters of Christianity like to spread the lie that a woman who has had an abortion can’t go to Heaven. It frustrates me to hear that, because we have a loving God who knows the hearts of sinners and will forgive those who are truly seeking His pardon.

Abortion is morally wrong. Our country is shedding the blood of the innocent. America is killing its future. All life is valuable. All life is a gift from our Creator. We must receive and cherish the gifts we are given. We must honor the right to life.Gianna Jessen

Godwin Is Not God

A few nights ago on social media, I was called out by someone for my pro-life views about the abortion holocaust. This guy quoted Godwin’s law.

“Who?”

Exactly.

I could care less what Godwin says.

Godwin is not God.

Christians follow God’s laws.

As the song says, there’s “no turning back, no turning back.”

Speaking of music, I wanted to share this beautiful song written and sung by Gianna. I hope it blesses you as much as it does me. The movie based on her life, “October Baby,” features this song.

God bless Gianna Jessen.

All Lives Matter to God

All Lives Matter To God

Did you know there are actual blog headlines warning that no one should say, “All lives matter to God”

Professing Christians are “all” brothers and sisters in Christ.

All lives do matter to God.

That being said, what upsets me to no end is when *anyone* gets hurt or killed through senseless violence.

My heart breaks for families (and communities) who have lost a loved one.

All of it needs to stop and the perpetrators put in jail.

Sadly, we are living in a very sinful world.

you matter to God

The Lord Knows You By Name

I don’t know about you, but I get tired of the media and lobby groups telling us what we should think and believe.

When God says He cares about all of us, I take Him at His Word.

I will trust the Lord.

Straight from the Bible, here’s John 10:14-15, ESV –

*14 I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. – John 10:14-15, (ESV).1

He knows us.

Praise God for that!

God cares about all of us.  Our prayers offered with a sincere heart are lifted instantly all the way up to His heavenly throne above.

No special stamps required.

No fancy words and no lengthy recitations to impress others.

Even the sweet words from a small child will mean much more than those.

sweet words from a small childIt doesn’t matter:

  • Where you live
  • The color of your skin
  • What language you speak
  • Your job title
  • Your age
  • Which church you go to

You will have eternal life with Him if you accept salvation through Jesus Christ alone. You can’t earn your way there.

Salvation is a free gift, but it requires trust in the one true God.

Hell will be bursting at the seams with people who tried to earn their way to heaven some other way.

God’s Love Song to You

Did You Know That God’s Love Song Was Written For Us?

God's love song to youAre you listening?

It’s an incredible truth that humbles me every time I think about it. The lyrics of a beautiful love song are right there in the pages of your Bible.

When I open Scripture, I find words of historical significance – not just about the events that happened way in the distant past, but prophetic words defining what will happen in our future. That’s His redemptive love for us. He loves us enough to tell us how we can know and spend our eternity with Him.

There are also words about wisdom, having a servant’s heart, forgiveness, and grace – virtues that are often forgotten in this world of distractions we’re living in.

The Bible rightly reminds us of His judgment. Although we don’t always understand His timing and we may not witness His justice personally, God promises to punish unrepentant sinners.

Why would anyone turn away or deny His gift of grace?

You May Think It’s Too Late to Turn Your Life Towards Him

It’s not too late. No, not ever, for as long as you have a breath in your body.

God is a loving Father, Who will forgive you if you truly repent when you sin and open your heart to receive His grace.

He knows you and He knows me…by name.

How incredible is that?

He knew our names before we were even born. That’s how big and omniscient God is.

God’s Words Can Speak to Your Heart

Do you have a favorite Bible verse?

Is there a certain verse you turn to when you need encouragement or a reminder of God’s promises?

Those are words to His love song, for you.

He wants a relationship with you. He doesn’t need us, but we need Him desperately.

I love to hear from friends which Bible verse speaks to them the most. Here’s one from Russell C. who lives in Seattle, Washington.

It’s really beautiful and you’ll find it in Zephaniah 3:17, ESV –

*The Lord your God is in your midst,
a mighty one who will save;
he will rejoice over you with gladness;
he will quiet you by his love;
he will exult over you with loud singing.

Here’s why this verse in particular has spoken to Russell’s heart:

“This is usually my favorite verse because it is a clear indication of the creative and non-generic nature of Father’s love towards me individually. He has written a song, about me, and sings it over me to rejoice in what He has created and in my potential. It has long been my goal to learn this song, to sing it with the Father, and to totally agree with His opinions and His vision for me.”

God’s Vision For Our Lives

I think about that verse also and it gives me a lot of peace. God created Heaven and Earth and yet He knows each one of us individually.

Think about the last time you went to a concert. Remember that huge crowd of people in the audience?

God knows you individuallyGod can pick you out of that crowd in the twinkling of an eye. That’s how powerful God is.

Let’s go bigger.

Think of every man, woman, and child in this great big world we live in. God still knows you personally (in this whole world full of people) and He knows your heart.

God knows your heart personallyHow amazing is that?

Now that’s a love song worth sharing.
