Gratitude Every Day

Gratitude Every Day: Thanking God for Keeping Us Safe

If you were to ask me about a time I was really scared, I’d have to tell you about our unforgettable nightmare hotel experience.

Although I believe in having gratitude every day, some days I‘m better at it than others!

Case in point . . .

This was several years ago, but I remember it well.

My father-in-law had passed away.

After an emotional funeral service for him in San Diego, we headed to a second memorial service in San Antonio where the family grave sites are located.

That meant travel for us, first by plane to San Diego, and then by car to South Texas.

The logistics were overwhelming for our family, not to mention the emotional aspect of losing a loved one.

On top of all that, it was a holiday weekend, and a bad snowstorm was expected in Dallas.

Snow showers on the way

Could it get any worse?

Due to the holidays, it was too late to board our dogs, so we had to take them with us in the car.

Have you ever tried to get a hotel out of town that takes dogs on a holiday weekend?

We could only find one.

Hotel Nightmare: Thanking God for Our Safety

We booked the reservation to “Hotel Nightmare” (as I later called it) and drove on to San Antonio.

When we got there – let’s just say – the area was less than desirable. It was located right off of the interstate.

A lot of “interesting” characters were hanging out everywhere.

I wanted to leave, but we had no other option. We had to stay there.

It’s not an exaggeration when I say that I was scared out of my mind.

We got into our hotel room as quickly as we could.

For the times we had to exit the room and meet up with family, we tried to be as quiet as possible so as not to draw attention.

Later that evening, after 11pm, our dogs decided they wanted to go outside.

No matter how much we tried to convince them otherwise. Lol.

It was pitch black dark and creepy.

I pulled my hair up tight into a ponytail and wore a ball cap and sweats to look less conspicuous.

Maybe not as tough-looking as I thought.

We found the one little area of grass off the parking lot to walk our dogs to do their thing.

Of course, they had to sniff every blade of grass that night.

“Hurry up!!!” I whispered as we looked nervously over our shoulders to see if anyone was heading our way.

Looking back, I realize the actual risk we took staying at that hotel. A good friend of ours who works in drug enforcement told us that particular area is a known gathering spot for drug deals, and just about everything else you can imagine.

I give all my thanks to God for keeping us safe.

I knew that He was with us and, whatever the outcome, good or bad, He would see us through anything.

Cultivating Gratitude Every Day

Over and over in the Bible, it says to “Fear not”, and “Do not be afraid.”

How many different times and contexts?

Try “hundreds.”

Isn’t that enough to stop fear in its tracks the next time we feel threatened?

Admittedly, I’m not the best at “fearing not” – especially when faced with potentially dangerous situations.

The fact is that our creator God instilled in us human emotions and instincts, and that includes fear.

Those red flags you sometimes feel are God-given for your own protection.

So, what kind of fear should be avoided?

When the Bible tells us, “Do not fear,” it means we are not to allow anxiety or fretfulness to rule our lives or take root in our hearts. We are not to be people of panic. We are to be people of faith. – gotquestions.org1

It’s comforting to know that God is always with us and He hears our prayers.

God doesn’t forget about us; and we shouldn’t forget about Him.

His grace and countless blessings in our past are an encouraging reminder that our future is in His hands.

Gratitude every day

With that in mind, I still try to make it a point to have gratitude every day.

God’s Word Says Fear Not

God’s Word Says “Fear Not”

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room – this mysterious global pandemic.

fear not

This hot-button topic promotes (and continues to promote) a lot of fear and isolation.

The mainstream media just makes it worse.

Do not fear each other

Christians friends – we can’t let the fear of the unknown overtake our lives and forever stall our purpose here on earth.

In short, Satan wants mass fear and panic.

Did you know that, in the Bible, the words “fear not” appear over 100 times?

We must take the words of Jesus to heart.

The Bible clearly says, “Fear Not.”

It doesn’t say, “Fear Now.”

Our Sovereign God gave us life, to actually live it.

Fear Not – God’s Word Doesn’t Lie

God's Word says fear not

God always says what He means.

If this can encourage you in any way, please read the following wise words from a pastor that I listen to a lot.

I hope it’s a helpful reminder for you of our victory through Christ because we’re living in a world that appears to have lost its collective mind.

Find rest and God’s peace in Biblical passages that remind us what Jesus has already done, and what He will do. Seek out those passages!

Jesus speaks about what has yet to be done as already completed, I HAVE.  He has already overcome this world.  He already has the victory.  He has triumphed already. When I read one word it completely changed my perspective. I realized that I need to see this ongoing national crisis, this global pandemic through the words of Jesus.  Jesus has already overcome the world.  If He has already overcome, why do we worry? If our King is already victorious, and He has already given us the outcome, there is no need to fear. – Pastor John Randall, Calvary Chapel San Juan Capistrano

Jesus already overcame the world.

Specifically, the word “overcome” means “to defeat.”

Christ our Lord defeated the Enemy.

To put it another way, we have reason to rejoice!

Encourage each other to “fear not,” keep watch, and see what the Lord will do.

Fear Not, Trust In God

Fear Not, Trust In God

World on pause

Remember, dear friends, you are not alone.

 “This too shall pass.”

Our entire world is on pause, waiting for concrete answers.

How do we stop this diabolical Coronavirus – which seems to prey, the majority of the time, on the weaker among us?

Yes, it is bad.

But, as Christians, we are to fear not, trust in God, and model these truths for those around us who have no hope.

We can pray for Holy Spirit guidance to reach out to those who are now open to hearing the gospel.

It’s easy to get consumed with talk about the latest updates and news about the Coronavirus. Much of that talk is good, and dissemination of information is healthy. But, in the midst of this pandemic, we lean on the fact that we have power through our words and through the Word of God to bring light in a challenging situation.1 Pastor Jerry Lawrence, courtesy Medi-Share blog.

Which Separation Is Worse?

The required six feet of separation from our neighbors and friends is bad enough.

It’s awkward and inconvenient, but from what the experts are telling us, it’s a necessary step to help flatten the curve.

We could be facing six feet of separation for the next couple of weeks or longer.

Hopefully not, but can you even imagine?

But, as startling as the spread of this virus is, what is even more sad are the numbers of people around us who have no hope and no trust.

Sadly, some of these people with weakened immune systems could die with no promise of eternal life.

Nothing compares to “eternal separation” from our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Don’t Forget His Promises

Our trust is not in man.

We need to lean on God.

He is a Promise Keeper.

There will eventually be an end to all of this.

Last Sunday, my pastor quoted these words in his sermon:

Fear Not, Trust In God

Those words really stuck with me.

Actions Affect Outcomes

We must pray, and on that glorious day when this virus is stopped in its tracks, we must continue to pray and be grateful.

Remember after 9-11 when churches across America were packed?

It’s not that way now.

What happened?

life gets in the way

Life got in the way again, like it always does.

Life got in the way of our Heavenly Father.

People have put their faith second place to other distractions such as politics, their jobs, you name it . . .

When are we going to learn?

Atheist groups succeeded in removing His Most Holy Name from almost every aspect of our lives.

The majority of Christians during those actions stayed silent.

Did we think He wouldn’t notice?

We must humble ourselves as a nation before Almighty God.

God didn’t cause this evil, but He has allowed it.

Without Jesus, We Are A Lost People

So here we are, facing this evil virus with an N95 respiratory mask.

As a nation, here’s what we need on a bigger scale.

Jesus Christ.

Will this crisis spark a permanent revival in America?

I can only hope so.

Father, we pray for America with this Coronavirus, that has the potential to spread.

Lord, You’re bigger than this virus.

We’re praying that these numbers will start going down, not up.

We’re praying that anyone that has it would be healed.

And we’re praying that Lord we would not live in fear, but rather we would live in faith.

Give wisdom to Vice-President Pence and his team as they deal with this, help them to know what to do, when to do it, the steps to take, the practical.

But Lord, we don’t rely only on that.

We are prayerful, looking to You and knowing that You are God and that You love us. So hear our prayer Lord, answer our prayer.

We pray this together in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen.2 – Greg Laurie, Pastor, Bible teacher, and author.
