The Ultimate Move

Moving

The Ultimate Move

“We are never moving again!”

Sound familiar?

If you’ve ever moved to a new place, then you know what a hassle it can be.

I remember when my husband and I moved to our current house.

We were so excited!

That is, until it came time to pack up everything at the old house. Lol.

We had a two story house at the time and, as you can imagine, there was a lot of carrying boxes of different sizes up and down those stairs.

Stairs that seemed to grow longer each passing moment.

Over and over . . .

While my husband was at work, I took it upon myself to get the upstairs packed as much as possible.

Boxes, peanut stuffing, and packing tape were everywhere.

I was going along at a good clip until . . . two sprained knees and a swollen ankle later, my role as most enthusiastic helper was completely obliterated.

The move

Actually, a lot worse than this!

My old knee injury reared its ugly head in a very painful way.

You can bet after that, we declared “We are never moving again.”

Of course as Bible-believing Christians, we know that some day we will make the ultimate move to our eternal home.

Now that’s a move we can look forward to!

We will reunite with our saved loved ones, but most importantly meet our Lord and Savior!

In the meantime, we must trust in God’s plan.

His timing is always perfect.

May these words of Jesus encourage you!

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I am coming again and will take you to Myself, so that where I am, there you also will be. – John 14:3, (NASB).

Kicking The Slump To The Curb

Don’t Give Up

I’m feeling a little sad.

A few days ago, I read a post from a fellow Christian blogger.

He said he’s discouraged and having trouble writing about some of the heavier topics in our world.

Perhaps he’s just suffering from a temporary case of writer’s block, but maybe not.

As he explained later in his post, he’s struggling because, as a Christian, he knows that if you have Christian beliefs that go against hot-button secular opinions, you face the possibility of aggressive backlash.

I get it.

Sometimes I feel beat down myself, and I can’t blame it on writer’s block.

I get distressed at how misled some people are.

You can see one of the headlines I’m talking about for yourself.

Unhinged Backlash

Kicking The Slump To The Curb

The hatred against Bible-believing Christians has lit up in social media.

I’m sure you’ve read some of these rude comments as well.

Unfortunately, there doesn’t appear to be any end in sight.

If you post a biblical response to something on a “public” Facebook page, then you can quickly become fodder for nasty written attacks.

Who are these name-calling people anyway?

They appear to lack any conscience whatsoever.

Tact and polite discussion aren’t in their vocabulary.

Even so, we know we must pray for enemies of Christianity.

Compassion versus Anger towards them is necessary because they don’t have Jesus in their lives.

Kicking The Slump To The Curb

We must get ready for the long haul.

It’s ultimately a spiritual battle.

Even churches are not immune to Satan’s attacks.

Alarming doctrinal changes are coming to light.

For example, changing pronouns in Scripture to make the gospel more PC is outright deception. Reading about issues like this can bring me to tears, but it is happening. We need to be aware of this and not bury our heads in the sand.

We know that Satan works to undermine everything of God.

All I can say to try and encourage you as fellow Christians, (p.s. I need encouragement too), is to please continue looking for opportunities to share your testimony and talk to others about your faith in Jesus Christ.

Don’t fear the slump and don’t let it stomp out your witness for good. I understand taking a break, but please don’t give up.

*Footnote: I emailed the blogger I spoke about earlier to give him some encouragement. He was very appreciative.

The Gift Of Our Savior

God’s Gift Of Our Savior

An unexpected present

“Thank you. You shouldn’t have!”

“You didn’t have to do that!!!”

Have you ever said that to someone who gave you an unexpected present?

As humans, we appreciate a surprise gift, but it’s also in our nature to feel a little confused.

Uh oh, was I supposed to get something for him/her?

What’s today’s date again?

Similiarly, it’s hard for people to accept the truth that our salvation, as Bible-believing Christians, is a gift.

“Free,” as in we can’t earn it, even if we try.

We are well-intentioned people, but our good deeds could never equal what Christ did for us on the cross.

There is no comparison.

We are not “little gods” here on earth as atheists (who trust only in themselves) would have you believe.

But, what about that helpful thing I did for my neighbor yesterday?

What about that flat tire I changed for a stranded motorist?

Those are good and admirable things, yes!

Because you are a Christian, you want to and will do good things, but the very act of helping someone is not the hope of your salvation.

The Golden Rule

I’m sure we all remember hearing the adage, “Do unto others…” when we were growing up. There are also a few different rewordings of that proverb, depending on the source.

What does the Bible say?

Matthew 7:12 reveals these words of Jesus from His Sermon on the Mount,

12 So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.Matthew 7:12, (ESV).

We are to love and bless others – a reality of our Christianity.

What The Golden Rule Is Not

The Golden Rule, however, is not the foundation of God’s plan of salvation.

What is the foundation?

Not “what,” but Who?

Jesus Christ, our Lord, and Savior.

We are sinners in need of a Savior.

The gift of our Savior

Mere words cannot adequately describe just how marvelous!

There’s nothing you nor I can do that is worthy of what our Savior did for us.

Despite our unworthiness, our prayers to Him, in His will, reach all the way up to Heaven.

14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 1 John 5:14, (ESV).

Life’s Purpose

Love Him, pray to Him, thank Him, delight in Him.

And love your neighbors.

Bless them with friendship, kindness, and compassion, and spread the transforming news of the Gospel.

You’ll get some rejections, but don’t ever give up talking about your faith.

God bless!

Don’t Bury The Lead

Don't bury the lead

A lot has changed for the better in my life since my former career as a TV reporter, but I still miss that adrenaline rush.

I learned so much about writing. The biggest lesson of all – don’t bury the lead!

In other words, don’t put the “leading” information in a news story way down at the bottom of the report.

Can that relate to sharing our faith as well?

I believe it can.

Don’t Bury The Lead

The “lead” is the most important fact of the story, followed by the supporting details after that.

Here’s an example of “burying the lead”:

“A terrible car crash tied up traffic on North Central today. State troopers think that today’s stormy weather played a big part in the collision. The massive car pileup backed up traffic for several miles. People living nearby heard the crash and described it as a loud bang. One man died when his car careened off the shoulder.”

See what happened there?

A poor soul lost his life, and the mention of his death is at the end of our example. Our fictitious reporter “buried the lead.”

It’s a good lesson for a lot of things in life.

Don’t bury the lead.

Don’t beat around the bush.

Get to the point!

Sharing Our Faith and The Good News

As Christians, we’re not supposed to dwell on the bad news in the world, because we can lose sight of the Good.

And there is Good News, Praise the Lord!

We see mere glimpses of it in our lifetime, but as Bible-believing Christians, we can also have what is Eternally Good forever.

So why aren’t we reaching out more?

teaching about sin and salvation

Why do so many church leaders today feel too intimidated to preach the truth about sin and salvation?

The younger generation, (or so I’ve read) says they don’t want pastors preaching to them anymore. A growing number of these folks, although not all of them, want to change the crux of what the Bible teaches, so it’s less convicting. They only want the good works of a social gospel and don’t want to hear about sin, forgiveness, salvation, or the End Times.

Say, what?

If someone you cared about was driving towards a dangerous cliff, would you warn them?

Of course, you would!

Why are so many Christians pressured to bury the “lead” of the Gospel because it makes some people (of any age) uncomfortable?

Does this mean absolute truth now has to take a back seat to popular culture?

Lord, have mercy.

Whosoever Believeth In Him

The absolute truth of the spiritual battle we’re in is revealed throughout the pages of Scripture

Please see John 3:16, for example.

I bet you have it memorized.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16, KJV, public domain

God is real.

Heaven is real.

Satan is real.

Hell is real.

“Should not perish,” and, some will perish. This is why, once we have a connection building with a lost person, we must talk to them about sin and salvation through Christ alone. There are lives at stake.

The Battle Is Real

There’s a spiritual battle going on right now.

Don’t let popular culture, (Hollywood, etc.) dictate to you what to think about God. (“The Shack,” movie, anyone?). Nor, should we allow the culture to define or interpret the Bible.

God is most definitely our loving and merciful Father.

ongoing spiritual battle

But, God is also a Righteous Judge.

He will judge unrepentant sinners.

That means people that you love, who are living life with no concern for God or salvation, are in trouble, if they continue on their present course of apathy.

Here’s where we come in:

If they don’t know Christ, they are your mission field.

Invite them to church and share the Good News.

Please know that the road will not be easy. As Christians, we were never promised that, but peace in Christ can sustain us.

*No joy can excel that of the soldier of Christ: Jesus reveals Himself so graciously and gives such sweet refreshment that the warrior feels more calm and peace in his daily strife than others in their hours of rest. – Alistair Begg, Christian Pastor.

God bless
