Headaches and Rainbows

Headaches and Rainbows – A Peaceful Lining in the Clouds

Unfortunately, I developed a humdinger of a headache.

This was the kind of headache that makes you want to get back in bed and bury your head under a pillow in a dark room.

 headaches

This pounding headache festered and festered and even got a little worse throughout the day – it felt like a migraine.

I did take something for it, just not soon enough. So it got a little one-up on me.

The medicine did take the edge off, but the headache was still there.

Have you ever had one of those kind of headaches?

Finally, around 5:00pm after getting some computer work done, I decided to go out to our back porch and just be by myself for a little while.

Where’s that “do not disturb” sign?

I lay out on the lounge chair and closed my eyes for a bit and breathed in the fresh air. There was a nice breeze going and the trees were softly swaying near the pond.

It was beautiful and so peaceful. I soaked it all in and closed my eyes.

I started thinking about Heaven and how beautiful it will be…and how peaceful… and joyous….and happy.

No headaches, no stress, no deadlines, no mean people, none of that. Just peace with God and being surrounded by other believers that we will love and fellowship with for all eternity.

I found myself talking to God in my thoughts again.

Then I opened my eyes. I looked up at the sky and then I saw it!

It looked like a baby rainbow. Just a little tiny portion of one in the sky.

I wish now I had snapped a photo of it.

I’d never seen a little patch of a rainbow like that before. The ones I’ve seen in the past are full rainbows radiating from the sky after a storm.

This one was just a quiet whisper of loveliness from Heaven.

I got my husband to come outside.

You gotta come see this!

He came outside and started searching the sky,
“What, where?”

“That little rainbow? That’s cool.” We heard from a meteorologist friend later that type of rainbow is called a “sun dog.”

Hubby and I stayed outside and watched it until the clouds started moving again and the lovely rainbow faded away.

A Rainbow is a Reminder of God’s Promise to Man

a Godly rainbowI counted six references in the Bible, all referring to the appearance of a rainbow and the covenant between God and man – no more worldwide floods will destroy the entire earth. (There will be other disasters, but that’s another article for some other day.)

Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.

The true meaning of the rainbow has gotten lost in today’s world, like a lot of things. The rainbow is a breathtaking symbol from our heavenly Father and yet, mankind has tried to morph it into meaning something else.

Well, they can try, but Christians know better.

We can only pray about things like this.

Some glorious day Jesus Christ will come again and the earth will be restored to its former glory.  All will be made right. We will delight in God and He will delight in us.

As one of my favorite songs says, “Kings and kingdoms will all pass away…but there’s something about That Name.”

Serenity Now!

Serenity Now

Ever have one of those days? When it seems like nothing is going right?

Stop it!

You know you have 🙂

There are a few ways I can get back into focus when that happens to me.

Here’s what I do: I say a prayer and then look at something beautiful that God created. I know it sounds simple, but it works.

Here’s one of my favorite photos for you.

How I Get Serenity Now

I put Philippians 4 into action and get my mind focused back on God, whether it’s through music or something visual.

8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9 What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

Here’s what happened on that day I’d rather forget:

I got on my computer to go into the writing directory I’ve been a member of since 2010.

Lo and behold I was met with an official message saying that the directory had been sold. I needed to make a decision quickly as to whether I would allow my articles to be republished on a new site (a site that I didn’t like) or all of my work would be deleted.

Wait – What????

It wasn’t just me that was affected by this behind the scenes sale. There were a million other writers who got the discouraging news.

All of my work was about to go “Poof!”

Never Giving Up

Out of all of my articles, the ones I really cared about were the ones about my faith in God. I was devastated.

As the deadline to either “move or terminate” my member account approached, I slowly started deleting my articles on the site and then re-saving them onto my hard drive. Each article removal hurt. Those articles represented a lot of work, but it wasn’t just the hours spent writing all of them.

I had put my heart into those articles.

It felt like I was being kicked in the stomach.

Why God?

After some initial tears and a pep talk from my husband and some encouraging friends, I picked myself up and started my own website.

Peace Through Jesus Christ

It’s nice not to be tied to a writing directory now, always subject to their conditions and potential to “sell out.”

So here it is, my new website.

I hope you are enjoying Delight in God.

Bad days will come and go, but the sun always rises and sets and reminds us that God’s love is as constant as the blessing of each new day.

Serenity is found through Him.

Be blessed!

Delight in God

Thank You For Searching For Delight in God

Delight yourself in God

How Do You Delight in God?

I bet we could get some fantastic answers to that question.

How about Delight in God comes from the joy of knowing that we’re saved by His grace alone? We can’t earn our salvation, He gives it to us freely if we become born again through trust in Jesus Christ.

My Delight in God blog also includes an appreciation and gratitude for the many blessings, both seen and unseen, that He gives us every day.

If you take a look at the beautiful creation around us. . . the mountains, the forests, the animals, the oceans. . . all of that is a gift to us from God.

Oceans and creation

The sun rises and sets every day, no matter what turmoil is going on in our world.  It’s as constant as God’s love for us.

I’d say that’s pretty delightful, wouldn’t you?

On October 8, 2014, my husband and I got up early to watch the lunar eclipse – the blood moon – from our back porch. What a wonderful sight that was. It was so mesmerizing, I couldn’t take my eyes off it.

I see that and I think, no matter what negative and stressful stuff is going on right now in our country and in the world, our God made that beautiful moon and the stars and He knows them each by name. He also knows my name. . .and yours.

You and me are precious to Him.  Amen?

Amen!

He loves us too much to let us stay the way we are. Trusting in Jesus will give you an eternal perspective that you never had before. That is a precious gift!

My hope as you explore this website is that you will join me on my journey of delighting in God.

I want to share stories, videos, and whatever inspirational articles I come across with you. I also hope you get a chance to check out my resource pages and my testimony of faith.

Some of my favorite resources include One Place Ministries and American Family Association. I encourage you to check them out.

God bless you!
