The American Soldier and Jesus

The American Soldier and Jesus

The American soldier and jesusI wanted to share a lovely poem with you this week called “The American Soldier and Jesus.”

It was written by a fellow Christian writer, Robin Bartholomew.

Robin is an accomplished author and has written many encouraging articles and poems. Her writing does not disappoint.

As soon as I saw the title of her poem, it caught my attention. Home of the braveI immediately thought about my Dad, a Navy Captain. Maybe I’m biased, but he was the coolest dad ever! His dedication and service to our country made a big impression on me. He was my hero and I miss him terribly.

To this day, I have the utmost respect for our military men and women and their families. That’s one reason why Robin’s poem resonated with me so much.

I emailed her and Robin was kind enough to give me permission to share her poem with you.

I hope it blesses you on this beautiful October day.

The American Soldier and Jesus

(The Only Two Who Died For You and Me)

by Robin Bartholomew, 09/01/15.

One died for our Freedom
One died to set us Free.
One died on the Battlefield
The other One hanging on a Tree.
One of them took a bullet
The other One a piercing sword.
But both of them gave their lives
And so the Story is told.

The American Soldier…
Young Women and Young Men.
Who shed their blood on the battlefield
In a war they could not win.
Jesus Christ, the Son of God
Shed His Blood on a Tree.
Where He conquered Death and Sin
So that we could all be Free.

Jesus Christ, The Son of God
Who arose again in three days.
Was right there beside that soldier
The day they passed away.
He took their hands and lead them
To a Place beyond the skies.
And set them up in Paradise
Where No One no longer will die.

The American Soldier and Jesus
Died for You and for Me.
One died on the Battlefield
The other One on a Tree.

God Bless America… Land that I Love
Stand Beside Her… And Guide Her
Through the Night… With the Light From Above

Ready To Take On The World

Ready to Take on the World: Graduating Seniors

Ready to take on the worldIs your graduating senior ready to take on the world?

Their futures and a whole new realm of possibilities lie up ahead.

Along with that hope, everything they grew up with and relied on is now about to change.

Doting parents are now a phone call away, instead of right in the next room.

So many changes, but also this . . .

Along with all the preparations for going away to school, it’s also important to prepare your graduating senior for a world that hates Christ.

I think we can all agree that if a soldier were to walk into battle without his or her armor on, they’d be an easy target.

In similar fashion, expecting our sons and daughters, who grew up in a solid biblical church, to simply withstand the anti-God pressures of a secular college is unrealistic.

The Enemy is relentless and, just as he continues to distract or tamper with your faith, he will do so also with your kids.

He is at war with God’s people.

Ready To Take on the World With Eyes Wide Open

Do we really think the Evil One has hit the “pause button?”

This clickable disturbing headline was two years ago.

Don’t think similar kinds of “teaching” only happen in states other than your own.

In many cases, the parents aren’t even aware this is going on.

In some schools and colleges, the pressures on students to reject their Christian faith is incessant.

And, with new mind-blowing technologies on the horizon, such as the increasing power of AI (artificial intelligence), the possibilities just get worse.

Artificial intelligence

Did you ever think you would see a headline like this one below?

Apparently, a fake “digital” god is in the works:

https://answersingenesis.org/technology/google-co-founder-wants-to-build-ai-digital-god/

What a blasphemous, yet futile, slap in the face to our Holy God.

Call it foolish defiance.

The Lord laughs at these attempts to replace Him.

4He who sits in the heavens laughs,
The Lord scoffs at them.
5Then He will speak to them in His anger
And terrify them in His fury, saying,
6But as for Me, I have installed My King
Upon Zion, My holy mountain. Psalm 2:4-6, (NASB).1

God is not surprised by these demonic strategies, but we as Christians need to be aware of it.

Can you believe that there are people who will fall for it?

Look at the popularity of influencers on YouTube – the next “big thing.”

Can you imagine when a fake “digital god” sets up shop on every screen?

Undoubtedly, from all sides, our Christian faith is under attack.

The Bible speaks of this.

For example, here’s a sobering and familiar reminder from 1 Peter for Christians of all ages:

Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8, (NASB).2

All this to consider, are your graduating seniors ready to take on this strange new world?

Resources for Parents

Pray, and let your children hear and know that you pray for them.

Remind them to pray for the Holy Spirit to give them the right words when their faith is under attack.

Need help with this?

There are several apologetics resources for you to consider, but here are a few in no particular order:

Equipped and Ready To Take On The World

Think of all the possible paths our children might choose – the road to sexual immorality, the avenue of alcohol and drug abuse, the way of ungodly friends. But in Christ, there is an alternative path – a route that will lead our children away from the struggles we know they’ll face on any other road. The right route starts with the Via Dolorosa – the way of the cross. It starts with salvation, It continues with a path that is straight (Prov. 3:5-6) and is directed by God’s Word (Ps. 119:105). It includes Jesus as a traveling companion (Jn. 8:12). That’s the ultimate alternate route. Let’s model it clearly so our children will see the right way.as quoted in Precept Austin.org.

If your graduating senior is confident in the truth of God’s Word and can clearly articulate that truth, they’ll be ready to engage the world around them.

Veteran’s Day 2022

Veterans Day, 2022 – Please Fly Your Flag

Veterans Day 2022 is almost here.

God bless all of our brave men and women in the military who served, and are serving, to protect our nation’s freedoms.

A thank you also to their families who carry on with responsibilities at home while a loved one is serving in sometimes dangerous locations abroad.

I don’t know about you, but when I watch soldiers’ homecoming videos on YouTube, I instantly burst into tears.

My tears are filled with gratitude for their sacrifice, and also from the wonderful memories that come flooding back of my father who served in the United States Navy.

Veterans Day 2022 – Words of Thanks Don’t Seem Enough

Not that long ago, I had it on my heart to write a poem about a soldier’s homecoming.

Lee Brice’s song, “I Drive Your Truck” sparked my imagination for this.

However, in my poem, I didn’t want the soldier to die.

I wanted him to come home where he could be surrounded by love and support from his best friend since childhood.

Here is my humble attempt to pay tribute.

A Soldier’s Homecoming

I had grass stains on my shoes

Playin baseball, me and you.

Tight as two best friends could be

Life back then was innocent and carefree.

Secret handshakes and catchin’ fish

Riding bikes and throwin’ a pitch

Childhood fun I’ll never forget

Those are the memories I’ll never regret.

Fell in love with a gal who’s now my wife,

We have a boy, it’s been a great life.

My son – he’s named after you.

He and I – we toss a few.

Just like we did – me and you.

You left for ‘Nam to fight the war,

Drivin’ tanks in ’64.

Every letter that you’d send

Reminded me how much I missed my friend.

You came home a broken man,

paralyzed legs, a weakened hand.

Lost your spirit in the war,

PTSD and at death’s door.

You’re not the same guy I used to know

It breaks my heart, but even so,

Near your hospital bed I’ll stand.

Mannnn . . . this isn’t what we’d planned.

But I’ll place a ball silently in your other hand.

Memorial Day in 2022

Remembering Heroes on Memorial Day in 2022

To those who gave all . . .

On this Memorial Day in 2022, we offer our gratitude to the heroic men and women in the military who gave their lives while serving in our Armed Forces.

Country music artist, Vince Gill, wrote the following song, “Go Rest High On That Mountain” right after his brother died.

But, this touching video tribute to our military heroes set to the same song seems appropriate to share here.

May the poignant images in this video be a reminder to all of us that freedom isn’t free.

God bless all who served and their families for making the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms.

Words can hardly express our thankfulness to you.

God Help Us Endure

God Help Us Endure The Sufferings To Come

The news out of Afghanistan is, in a word, devastating.

Are you as outraged as everyone else?

Thirteen U.S. soldiers, both men and women, killed in the line of duty.

There’s more.

Stranded Americans and allies face potential death and persecution.

God help us endure

Could the videos of those poor people pleading for rescue from that airport get any more heart-wrenching?

There’s so much to say about our nation’s failure in this, but that’s not the purpose of this blog.

Thanks be to God, there are glimpses of good news.

This from Samaritan’s Purse. . .

And this from name withheld . . .

Closer to home, this past Sunday, gulf coast communities in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama were ravaged by Hurricane Ida.

Power outages, high winds, and massive flooding caused extensive damage – all on the 16th anniversary of a devastating storm from the past, Hurricane Katrina.

Hurricane Ida   August 29, 2021

In recent weeks, you may remember that a 7.2 earthquake shook Haiti to the core, bringing down buildings and leaving many already poor residents, homeless.

Tropical storm Grace hit shortly after, adding more death and destruction. The video of those poor families hunkering down under tarps while a tropical storm barreled down on them was very difficult to watch.

Haiti earthquake

Haiti Earthquake August 14, 2021

Tragedies are breaking out all over, here in America, and overseas – at a shockingly rapid pace.

Did you ever think that you would see this in your lifetime?

Please PRAY for our nation and for the whole world.

God help us endure the sufferings to come.

Our Lifeline

Brothers and sisters in Christ  – thankfully, we know that this world of increasing suffering and persecution is not our final home.

Our Savior, at an unknown time, will rescue us from this fallen world.

Hold on to that blessed promise!

We must endure until then.

Going forward, it will be hard and it will be heartbreaking at times.

The Bible tells us to expect it.

I don’t want to see any more suffering either, but I know God has a plan.

His plan is so perfect that it could only be designed by the Maker of Heavens and earth Himself.

We will be with Him and there will be no more suffering.

Amen!

We are citizens bound for heaven, a paradise of never-ending joy and happiness.

Are You Ready?

Who is ready for the Lord to come back?

Count me in.

But God.

Only He knows the time, or the hour of Jesus’ return. We just know that it will be “some day.”

Until then, keep your eye on the prize.

Encourage each other. We will all need encouragement in the coming days, months, and maybe years ahead.

Focus on the One who gave you life and the One who wants you there with Him in the end.

“Some day” we’ll have Jesus and delight in His kingdom of endless hallelujahs.
