He Knows Your Name

God’s Unchangeable Character

Have you ever felt insignificant, even if just for a little while?

Perhaps:
– your boss denied your request for a raise
– a disobedient child defied your authority in front of your in-laws
your great idea was shot down at an employee meeting

Friends, it will be okay.

We don’t know when or how exactly, but it will turn out as God planned, and in His timing.

You Are Not Alone

Thankfully, we don’t walk through this journey alone.

We have a Father who cares about us very, very much.

With the love of the Father in mind, I wanted to look back this week at an uplifting song that I remember singing back in the mid-1990’s.

An oldie, but goodie, right?

It’s a choir song. I love it because, for me, it represents the beautiful realization that God is not an absentee father.

Right now, He is with you and me.

The song is called “He Knows My Name.”

Here is one of the several beautiful versions you can find on YouTube.

Enjoy!

Sing To Him

Why not sing to Him?

If you sing horribly, you can wait until you’re alone.

I’m kidding!

*11 Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous ones; And shout for joy, all you who are upright in heart.Psalm 32:11, New American Standard Bible (NASB).

Psalm 32 is a Psalm of David. He writes joyfully, as one who knows that the Lord will forgive his confessing heart.

In His Sight

God is not sitting up in Heaven somewhere, only handling global events.

You and I are in His sights every day.

There’s only one mediator between God and us, and He is Jesus Christ.

No one else has that divine authority.

He knows your name

Communion With God

How can we respond to the love and character of God exhibited through His Son, Jesus Christ?

Do we just squeeze in a few fly-by minutes with Him each day, or do we take some actual time to read the Scriptures and pray?

By praying, I mean praying to Him in Jesus’ Name with our expressions of love and gratitude.

We can always remember that the One who created us is always with us.

God will forgive our contrite hearts as well.

Now that’s something to sing about!

My Favorite Things

My Favorite Things

“Raindrops on roses, and whiskers on kittens”

The Sound of Music

I’m doing my best Julie Andrews impression right now.

“Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens”

Are you singing it to yourself?

“Brown paper packages tied up with strings, these are a few of my favorite things.”

It’s the song, “My Favorite Things” from the beloved family movie, “The Sound of Music,” featuring Julie Andrews.

My Favorite Things, Favorite Memories

Do you have some favorite things around your house?

This is a photo of some of mine.

Francie's Christmas village

I knew the artist personally!

This Christmas village was hand-stitched on plastic canvas by my late sister-in-law, Francie. My husband and I look forward to putting it up on our mantle every Christmas. When I look at it, I automatically think of her.

France was a talented artist. She could quilt and sew, cross stitch and knit. She used her God-given hands to create beautiful hand-stitched works of art.

A work of art

Cancer took her life 14 years ago, but as a family, we will always have our memories. Her artwork and quilts are displayed throughout our house.

It’s easy to look at beautiful works of art like these and totally forget the hours and love it took to create them.

Once we accept a gift of custom art, do we look beyond the “thank you” and really appreciate all it took to make it happen?

You Are Unique

You are special and don’t let anyone tell you that you’re just a clump of cells.

Our Supreme Maker knit you together in your mother’s womb to create the you who is reading this post.

He gave you Life!

I don’t know about you, but I feel cherished with the kind of love that we will never on this earth truly comprehend.

I also feel disappointment at myself when I fail Him.

Through His grace and my repentance for my sins, He sets me free to become the person He wants me to be.

Will I accept His purpose in my life or will I put the Master Creator somewhere in the back of my mind, sandwiched in between small increments of time Monday through Sunday?

Are we too busy with our every day stuff to give God the attention that He deserves?

Every Day Worship

Prayers and thoughts offered up to God should happen every day, not just on Sunday at church. He knows how busy we are. But, if you think about it, don’t we always manage to make time for what we really love?

In 2017, let’s make God a priority. The job He gave us to do is more important than any other.

Some ideas to stir your thoughts towards God:

  • You can buy (or make) a beautiful journal and record your praises and prayers there.
  • Be a volunteer and help someone less fortunate, always in Jesus’ name.
  • You can volunteer to serve in a ministry at your local church.
  • Speak about your faith on social media. It’s a lot more life-affirming to your friends than some of the political slams that people put out there every day. Some people may not like your speaking out about Jesus on Facebook or Twitter. All you can do is pray for them.
  • You can start or attend a Bible study in your neighborhood or at church.
  • You can commit to reading the Bible, all of it, this year. There are so many commentaries and prompts online to help you.
  • You can read and pray through a devotional with your spouse, significant other, family member, or a friend. Daily devotionals are short and full of wisdom and God’s grace. Devotionals can also be easily purchased online. A dear friend gave one to us and we are enjoying that quality time together, with God.

*Here, then, is the real problem of our negligence. We fail in our duty to study God’s Word not so much because it is difficult to understand, not so much because it is dull and boring, but because it is work. Our problem is not a lack of intelligence or a lack  of passion. Our problem is that we are lazy.R.C. Sproul, theologian.

In Awe of our Maker

God loves us.

To be treasured by God Himself – can there be anything better?

Spending Time With God

Spending Time With God is More Important Than You Think

time with God

Okay, it’s true confession time.

I hate to admit it, but here goes.

There have been a few days when my schedule has been so jam-packed that I’ve neglected to read my Bible.

I’ve always regretted it later that night when I’m tucked into bed and saying my prayers.

There’s no doubt, our lives can get so busy that we miss out on spending time with God.

Even so, He is always ready and waiting to hear from us.

Missing a few days of Bible reading is understandable – but, it’s our loss.

We miss out on so much when we don’t have that precious time alone with our Savior.

Why should we read the Bible?

We should read God’s Word in order to know Him more.

Do you remember when you were first saved?

Like me, I’m sure your spiritual thirst went through the roof.

I never want to lose that joyful feeling that I am His child and He knows my name.

The Bible is the portrait of Jesus Christ.
– John Stott, Christian pastor (1921-2011.)

Reflections on the Busyness of Life

Distractions of all kinds can get in the way of what’s really important in our lives – spending time with God.

With that in mind, I wrote the following poem as a reminder.

Convict My Heart

Please don’t be mad, Lord
that I didn’t pray.
There were so many things I had to do today.

Please don’t be mad, Lord
I’ve got so much work.
My job’s real important, and the boss is a jerk.

Please don’t be mad, Lord
my Bible’s in a drawer.
I’ve been meaning to read it,
but someone’s at the door.

Please don’t be mad, Lord
I’ll just worship later.
I’m still looking for a church
where the music’s much greater.

Please don’t be mad, Lord.
My devotions weren’t read.
Just one more post on Facebook
then it’s time for bed.

I’ve put You behind
other things in my life.
I have no excuse,
it must cut like a knife.

Tomorrow’s the day
for a brand new start.
My precious Lord and Savior, please convict my heart.

Delight in God

Thank You For Searching For Delight in God

Delight yourself in God

How Do You Delight in God?

I bet we could get some fantastic answers to that question.

How about Delight in God comes from the joy of knowing that we’re saved by His grace alone? We can’t earn our salvation, He gives it to us freely if we become born again through trust in Jesus Christ.

My Delight in God blog also includes an appreciation and gratitude for the many blessings, both seen and unseen, that He gives us every day.

If you take a look at the beautiful creation around us. . . the mountains, the forests, the animals, the oceans. . . all of that is a gift to us from God.

Oceans and creation

The sun rises and sets every day, no matter what turmoil is going on in our world.  It’s as constant as God’s love for us.

I’d say that’s pretty delightful, wouldn’t you?

On October 8, 2014, my husband and I got up early to watch the lunar eclipse – the blood moon – from our back porch. What a wonderful sight that was. It was so mesmerizing, I couldn’t take my eyes off it.

I see that and I think, no matter what negative and stressful stuff is going on right now in our country and in the world, our God made that beautiful moon and the stars and He knows them each by name. He also knows my name. . .and yours.

You and me are precious to Him.  Amen?

Amen!

He loves us too much to let us stay the way we are. Trusting in Jesus will give you an eternal perspective that you never had before. That is a precious gift!

My hope as you explore this website is that you will join me on my journey of delighting in God.

I want to share stories, videos, and whatever inspirational articles I come across with you. I also hope you get a chance to check out my resource pages and my testimony of faith.

Some of my favorite resources include One Place Ministries and American Family Association. I encourage you to check them out.

God bless you!

Stand For Your Faith

Taking A Stand For Your Faith

Have you ever had to take a stand for your faith?

In Joshua 1:9, God told Joshua (Moses’ right-hand man) to be “strong and courageous” in battle, and that He (the Lord) would be with him wherever he went.

Of course, in context, that assurance applied to Joshua.

Thankfully, and only by God’s grace, today’s Christian can also rely on God’s promises.

While the promise of Joshua 1:9 was specific to Joshua, the principle is affirmed elsewhere in Scripture as applicable to all believers today. God calls us to live courageously, without fear, knowing that God is with us at all times. – gotquestions.org.1

“Be strong and courageous”

I like to think of that Joshua verse when faced with life’s challenges.

Taking A Stand May Cost You Some Friendships

Looking back, I remember this company I used to work for years ago.

One of my coworkers was getting ready to celebrate her 50th birthday.

Birthday ideasAll of the girls in the office secretly got together so we could plan the big surprise.

We tossed out ideas at the first meeting.

Unfortunately, someone suggested we include some R-rated options and gifts.

Ughhhh.

Admittedly, before I became a Christian, I wouldn’t have had a problem with that.

Now, the thought just made me cringe.

Don’t we get enough of that garbage on TV now?

Not to rain on anyone else’s parade, I said that I would come for just the dinner portion of the party, but would sneak out during the R-rated part.

I thought that was a pretty good solution.

They didn’t.

Even so, their obvious frowns and complaints really didn’t matter.

I wasn’t interested in following the crowd.

Taking a Stand: Be Prepared For Negative Reactions

As Christians, we have to be prepared.

Taking a stand can earn you some disdain or even a few enemies, even on a smaller scale like at this former job.

The whispers of “church lady” said within my earshot were not hard to miss.

For several days, the gossip and sneers continued.

Even so, I stuck to my plan.

I wasn’t going to stop “them”,  but I didn’t have to take part in anything that would make me feel uncomfortable.

My faith is precious to me.

I try to remember what Christ has done for us on the cross when tempted by others to act like the world.

After a few, let’s call it “interesting” days at work, one of my coworkers came up to me and asked if I had any other party suggestions.

Thank You Lord for this outcome!

The R-rated stuff was dropped.

A Surprise Ending

You know what happened?

That surprise party turned out to be a “huge” success – complete with great food, a “this-is-your-life” script I co-wrote with the birthday girl’s husband, and an arranged surprise appearance by her best friends from outside of work.

Everyone agreed afterwards what a great time it was.

Did the sneering at me stop?

Not completely.

Days afterward, the whispers of “church lady” and gossip about me still surfaced every now and then.

You know what?

Name-calling doesn’t bother me anymore.

I am His child.

If someone messes with a Christian for taking a stand for Godly values, they’re messing with Him.

What does matter is my relationship with Jesus Christ and my desire to glorify Him.

Who knows – maybe I planted a seed with someone there.

As the world gets darker around us, there will come a time for you to be courageous as well, for something temporary like a coworker’s birthday to actual persecution by our enemies.
